Nature in Schalkwijk and surroundings
Our holiday home is located in the middle of nature on the island of Schalkwijk. From our holiday home you have a clear view of the best-preserved part of the Dutch Water Line that is currently nominated as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Within a radius of a few kilometers you will find the pearl of the Dutch Waterline; Fort Honswijk. It is located in the backyard of our holiday home, (you can see it here: Fort Honswijk) this fort forms an ensemble with Fort Snel, the Gedekte Communsweg, Fort WKU, work on the Groeneweg and the inundation field on the Achterdijk.
If you take the pedestrian ferry behind us, see: liniepont or the Culemborg ferry you will be in the Betuwe within a few km.
